The place

Montbel Arbre is rooted in 45 hectares in Ariège. A rich and diverse territory composed of forests, meadows certified as Organic Agriculture for over 25 years, several springs, a large pond, and streams that meander and converge. A living landscape, conducive to observation, listening, and the emergence of new balances.

The vision

Montbel Arbre is an intergenerational and multicultural space designed to welcome around fifty residents, as well as volunteers and visitors (through guesthouses, retreats, workshops, festivals, etc.). Our goal is to share this way of life and promote values of simplicity, sharing, and reconnecting to WiFi with nature.

Permaculture is central to everything we do. It encourages us to observe, understand interactions, and seek sustainable balance between beings, uses, and resources.

Values

Montbel Arbre is a place to slow down, listen, and reconnect. It is a space where we choose to cultivate a mindful presence—toward life, others, and ourselves—convinced that transformation begins with the quality of our connections. Here, care is practiced as an attentive regard for every being, every relationship, and both inner and collective rhythms. Our governance is intentional, serving the expression of each individual, and tensions are embraced as opportunities to grow together.

Sharing and mutual support become acts of trust, a way of acknowledging that nothing is built alone. Pooling resources, spaces, and knowledge is how we honor interdependence and bring forth living commons, carried collectively. Montbel Arbre is open to the land and the human paths that cross it. Welcoming, transmitting, and sharing the experience of this place allows it to remain porous, alive, and connected to the world.

Chosen sobriety brings us back to the essential. It refines our needs and deepens our connection to life. Every day, we seek to remember our intimate bond with nature and our shared responsibility for what sustains us.

History

Montbel Arbre first took root long ago, in the imaginations and aspirations of several people. Its concrete grounding began in the spring of 2023, when the place, the people, and their intentions started to align. Since then, the tree has been growing, slowly, steadily… and it continues to spread its branches.
